Golf Gifts Vary With The Player
By Angus MacLeod

When it comes to buying presents for family and friends, golf gifts can sometimes be the most difficult. Depending on the level of experience and the tenacity with which a person approaches the game, they may not appreciate your choice of certain items and buying golf gifts for someone especially particular can be hard.

There are a few golf gifts you can give that will always be welcome, regardless of how hard a person is to buy for. Everyone who golfs will appreciate someone else paying the greens fees for a round of golf and practically every course sells gift certificates. Typically, they will be worth a round of 18 holes, but some courses allow them to be used in rounds of nine holes. If the person for whom you are buying the golf gifts qualifies for a different rate, the certificate can often be bought at that rate.

Balls are another of the many golf gifts that most players will not turn down. Although they may be partial to a specific make ball, if you give someone the gift of golf balls, there is an excellent chance they will appreciate them and use them. There are different compression ratings for golf balls and they are used in different weather, but your weekend duffer most likely will not pay much attention, unless you buy your male friends what may be considered to be women's golf balls.

Let Golfer Buy Their Own Equipment

When it comes to the clubs, it is best to let the golfer select their own. Regardless of the price, the majority of golfers would prefer to select their own based on their individual preference. A gift certificate to the sports store is acceptable to let them pick out their own, or if they have expressed a preference for a specific club or set of clubs.

A towel that hangs on their bag to wipe their hands or club heads is another of the welcome golf gifts that is generally acceptable by everyone and a ball retriever, used when fishing balls from water hazards is also appreciated. If there is a young child looking to buy golf gifts, a bag of wood tees is always welcome by any golfer.

Other items that may be considered appropriate as golf gifts could include a range finder, to help them determine the distance to the green or a stroke counter to help them keep track of how many times they hit the ball on each hole. If they need a calculator, they may also need another hobby.
