Dealing With Hair Loss In Children
By Wendy Simons
When it comes to an issue such as hair loss in children, it is really a difficult issue to have to deal with. After all, there is nothing more important than our children, and so to have to sit and see them go through an ordeal such as hair loss, it can be really hurtful and traumatizing.
Why Hair Loss In Children Occurs
There are actually many different reasons as to why hair loss in children occurs, and one of the most common is due to Tinea Capitis. Tinea Capitis is a disease which is caused by fungal infection of the skin of the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes, and it is a condition which is caused by a fungus which invades the hair shaft and causes the hairs to break.
The condition is typically transmitted by contact from one infected child to another through the sharing of such items as combs, brushes, hats, barrettes, pillows, and so on, and so you want to make sure that your children are not sharing items such as this with any of their friends.
Other Causes Of Hair Loss In Children
There are many other reasons for hair loss in children as well however, such as from alopecia areatea, which is a common form of patchy hair loss which occurs in children, and the child who suffers from this condition will typically lose hair in circular patches around the head, of which are sometimes up to two inches in diameter.
You will also notice that the hair at the borders of these patches will generally be rather loose, but their scalp will tend to look normal. As well, you should know that this disease is not life-threatening, although it can be very terrifying to see in your child.
If you see that your child is beginning to suffer from hair loss, then the first thing that you are going to want to do is make sure that you get them in to see their doctor as soon as you possibly can, because you want to be able to figure out what the actual problem is.
It may be nothing and be normal, and on the other hand it may be something very serious. This is why it is so critical that you get them in to get checked up immediately, so that something can be done as soon as possible if there is actually something wrong with the child.
