Hair Loss Intro

Hair Loss can be caused by a traumatic event and, ironically, hair loss itself can be a traumatic event! Yes, I know from bitter experience how distressing the loss of your hair can be. I am losing mine due to my age (male pattern baldness) but many younger people find that they too are losing their hair. In this article I will examine some of the reasons why some of us suffer from hair loss and the different types of loss that occur.

Hair loss is a perfectly natural event, we are continually losing hair as old hair falls out to be replaced by new growth. You can often see this by examination of a hair brush!

Hair Loss In The Man

Male hair loss is a common problem, my own hair is beginning to go pretty thin and what there is of it is losing it's color. Male pattern baldness is a problem that many men find distressing while others show no concern. There are many hair regrowth treatments available with many having been through vigorous scientific testing to verify the success.

The scientific name for this type of baldness is androgenetic alopecia and you may be surprised that it is a condition that is found amongst men and women! The hair loss is usually in a well defined pattern starting above both temples and around the crown of the head and often progressed to complete baldness.

Female Hair Loss

Hair loss for a woman is particularly distressing as the problem is usually associated with men. It is some consolation that female Androgenetic alopecia rarely leads to complete baldness. Genetic factors can mean that you are likely to suffer hair loss but external factors can also play a major role.

Prevent Hair Loss

Preventing hair loss is possible, as mentioned, there are many hair loss treatments available which help greatly. However there are a few basic things that you can do which should greatly help in your fight against it.

It may seem strange but a simple adjustment to your diet can have a profound effect upon hair growth and the thinning of hair (and ultimately baldness). Until very recently hair loss was not considered a problem for people in Japan but as their culture changed, and their habits moved towards those in the West, their diet changed. As their diets started to contain more fat content and the calorie intake increased it was shown that there was a subsequent increase in the occurrence of male pattern baldness. I think it is safe to consider then that a healthy diet is likely to help prevent hair loss but even if it fails to halt balding it is surely wise to eat healthier anyway?

Hair loss in any form is very upsetting. It can also be very upsetting when other members of the family, including your pets, suffer from it. It is often a subject that few like to discuss but so readily many poke fun or crack jokes at the expense of those who suffer from it. I hope that you found the above information useful. I have added a number of articles below to help you understand the problems associated with hair loss and the various treatments & remedies that are available. However I strongly advise that you should visit your family doctor to ensure that the hair loss from which you or a friend are suffering is not a sign of something more sinister.
