Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Hair is the cause of so much stress and upset, a "bad hair day" is now a common phrase used to describe one of those days were everything seems to go wrong for us, or in reference to somebody not being in a very good mood. The origins of the saying come from the frustrations of many trying to get their hair ready for an evening out, times when our hair simply refuses to do as it is told and other common hair frustrations.

Hair truly is a problem for us too much and we look to laser hair removal to reduce it, as we get older we grow concerned about hair loss and we start looking for remedies.

On the other hand our hair can also have a very positive effect upon our well being. Many women find that a trip to the local hair salon is such a pleasurable experience that they use it as a therapy! It is true that when we feel good about ourselves we feel a full sense of well being and a good hairstyle can make the world of difference to our appearance.

Hair Color

Hair color has moved on since the days of the blue rinse and hair color is now an art form with a massive range of colors available. These colors range from the naturals, such as blondes, browns and blacks, to the ulta vivid synthetic colors that are increasingly popular today such as eye dazzling reds and blues.

Highlights, lowlights and tone-on-tone coloring add sophistication to any hair style and, although these styles can be done at home, it is always best to have this type of hair styling performed by a professional at a hair salon. Whatever your hair type the stylist will be able, through use of their vast experience, will be able to style your hair to your likeing using the latest techniques.

Curly hair can often be problematic at the best of time but when dealing with color or highlights with the color often appearing different to that shown on the label. Hair can become brittle and extremely dry and the color can fade prematurely. This is due to differences at the molecular level so it is always best to ask the stylist if they have had experience in coloring curly hair before you let them proceed. In most cases it is best to use semi-permanent or vegetable colors which avoid chemical damage and lead to a richer color that is less likely to fade.

Redheads have similar problems with hair coloring. Similarly the color seems to fade faster and often appears much darker than that which is advertised on the hair product packaging. Red hair should be colored following the tip above. For most redheads it is often best to enhance the natural color by the addition of lowlights and deeper tones of red which will compliment almost any style.

Black hair can have it's own unique problems when applying color. It should be noted that if you have not long dyed your hair black it should not be bleached as it will just turn orange or a very strange yellow. Such a drastic change as from black to blonde should be done very carefully and you should test a small area of hair first. If you plan to move from black (dyed or natural) a salon treatment is the best option.

Blonde hair is often the easiest to color. In this case blondes really do have more fun. Even wash-in wash-out colors can last much longer than advertised, most of this time this is an added bonus. However you should keep this in mind if you plan to use vivid unnatural colors such as vivid red which will fade to pink before returning to the natural blonde.

Hairstylists have been trained in the science of hair products and the effects on hair. They understand how certain chemical are likely to react with the hair. They have a wealth of experience of dealing with many different types of hair. You may think your hair is "normal" but care should always be taken when using color. Test areas are great but for really spectacular results you are best taking advantage of the hairstylists knowledge and experience - even if you think it is expensive!
