A Brave New Future with the Sony Bravia HD TV
By Tony Cunningham
Sony has been an industry leader in consumer electronics, and the company is certainly well-known for its introduction of the very first personal portable cassette player - the Walkman. However, Sony has suffered some missteps in the past; having made some mistakes such as trying to promote the clunky Betamax format or creating the much maligned Bean MP3 player. Still, Sony has undeniably had a lot of success as well. The company is a major player in the video game industry with its Playstation consoles, and Sony TVs have always been a mainstay. Although things have been a bit rocky for the company in recent years, sales of their TVs have been strong of late. There are several models to choose from.
Television for Him and Her
Sony Bravia HD TVs (formerly named the Wega) are some of the company's most recent products, and you're sure to find a Sony HD TV that's right for you! Although these Sony LCD HD TVs were initially somewhat high-priced, they are somewhat more reasonable now. The Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1 is a 40-inch model that retails for close to $2200. Regardless, they do provide some of the best pictures that you can get on a LCD TV. Although LCD HD TVs may not quite be able to compete with plasma HD TV, Sony has certainly done a nice job with the rebranded Bravia line. At cnet.com, the Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1 HD TV got a rating of 7.7 from the editors on a ten-point scale. The Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1 also had an average user rating of 8.4 (from 87 users).
The editorial review made a point of mentioning that the Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1 has only one HDMI input, instead of two as you would find on similar HD TVs. Of course, you may want to look for something other than a Sony Bravia HD TV if LCD HD TVs don't really cut it for you. Unfortunately, Sony got out of the plasma HD TV market, so you might want to try seeeing if there's a Toshiba or Panasonic model that is right for you. Sony may have its work cut out for it if it wants to regain its dominance in TV sales and other areas, but don't count them out. However, just take a look at a Sony Bravia HD TV, and you might be pleasantly surprised by the quality.
