The Difference Between A Migraine And An Allergy Headache
By M. A. Fulmar

Many people cannot distinguish between an allergy headache and a migraine. However, if you get a headache right after you eat or drink something, then you may be able to assume that you are getting an allergy headache. This is especially true if your headache is accompanied with swelling, hives or breathing problems. If you do have any of these symptoms along with your headache, then you need to go to the hospital as fast as possible. This type of headache is not something that you should take lightly. These types of allergies can be fatal if not handled properly.

If you are suffering from headache pain, but have no other symptoms, then you can try applying a cold pack to your forehead. When this is accompanied with proper rest you should feel much better after a short period of time. However, if you do not feel as though the cold pack is helping you, then you should stop using it and allow the pain to settle down. A painkiller such as acetaminophen, naproxen sodium, ibuprofen or asprin may also help you here.

Allergy Headaches Due To Weather

You may also get an allergy headache from the changes in seasons as well. During these times, the best way to tell the difference between an allergy headache and a migraine is to look at your symptoms. You should know that a migraine is an intense headache that is located in one particular area of your head. Usually it is accompanied by nausea and it may even cause you to vomit. Sometimes you may even become sensitive to touch on your arms and scalp. A migraine may last for several hours or days. If you suffer from migraines, discuss possible medication options with your doctor.

On the other hand, an allergy headache is usually triggered by your allergies or a change in the air pressure. Therefore, if you notice that your headache is seasonal or occurs only when the weather is changing, then you can safely assume that this is the type of headache that you are suffering from.

You can simply treat this common type of headache by taking an over-the-counter allergy pain reliever medication. This helps the pressure inside your sinuses to equalize with the air around it. These medications are also a great way to treat all of your other seasonal allergy symptoms as well. Make sure that you always have this type of medication on hand.
