Baking Soda For Heartburn: Can Baking Soda Relieve Discomforts Brought About By Heartburn?
By M. A. Fulmar
Experts believe that baking soda for heartburn is one of the best home remedies for this type of ailment. One teaspoon of baking soda diluted in one glass of lukewarm water and taken in small amounts until the burning sensation in the chest of the heartburn sufferer is gone is often adequate to relieve the suffer from discomforts. Since baking soda is readily available and you do not need a prescription to buy it, baking soda for heartburn is indeed very convenient.
How Safe Is Baking Soda For Heartburn?
According to experts, baking soda for heartburn is just like any other antacid mediation that should not be taken in excess. The proper used of baking soda for heartburn could be beneficial but the excessive use of baking soda could actually cause more damage than good to the body. Note that if a person takes more baking soda than necessary to relieve that burning sensation brought about by heartburn, the baking soda could actually neutralize the acid of the stomach itself. Since the stomach would need acid to digest food, it will compensate by producing more acid to replace the acid that have been neutralized by the baking soda.
Baking soda for heartburn is good as long as it is taken in moderation. However, when it is abused, it can cause a lot of adverse effects. Baking soda has a lot of sodium in it, which is not really good for the body. People who are suffering from high blood pressure should take baking soda with caution because excess sodium in the body could trigger the rise of blood pressure.
Preventing Heartburn
Although baking soda for heartburn is readily available and could relieve you or discomforts, prevention of heartburn is still the best solution. To prevent heartburn, you should avoid food that could trigger this condition. Fatty food, raw onions, tomato-based products, food with vinegar in it, chocolate and other food that contains strong flavors could trigger heartburn and is best avoided. If you must eat these types of food, you should eat them in small proportions so as not to upset your digestive system.
Stress and bad posture could trigger heartburn. According to studies, people ho have bad posture and those who are constantly subjected to stress could suffer from heartburns. Although baking soda for heartburn could help relieve the discomforts, chronic heartburn and the use of baking soda to relieve it may lead to other problems in the future.
