High Blood Pressure Diet: Choose Foods Low In Saturated Fat And Sodium
By M. A. Fulmar
When it comes to blood pressure, many people have no idea what their levels are. You truly don't know if your levels are unmanageable until you get checked by your doctor. Your doctor will let you know if you do, in fact, have high blood pressure and can often tell you what you can do to either prevent high blood pressure from rearing its ugly head or how to get your levels down to more manageable levels. One of the things your doctor will likely tell you to do is to follow a good high blood pressure diet.
A good high blood pressure diet will be a diet that's low in saturated fats and sodium. I know what you're thinking; from now on it's going to be all brussel sprouts and rice cakes from now. That's completely untrue. You don't have to give up eating the foods you love, you just need to make sure that you eat the right foods and eat the wrong ones only in moderation. For instance, the best high blood pressure diet would be one where you choose a baked potato instead of French fries or a chicken sandwich instead of a hamburger. However, make sure you also watch condiments, as those can also be very high in sodium.
Ask A Doctor Or Dietitian For Tips
Ask your doctor or even a dietitian what the best high blood pressure diet would be. It's different for everyone. For instance, a hundred and fifteen pound woman will have a different high blood pressure diet than a two hundred and twenty pound man. Your doctor or dietitian can help you make better food choices without having to completely get rid of your favorite foods.
As with any diet, a high blood pressure diet will only be followed correctly if certain bad foods are eaten in moderation. You don't want to give up all your favorite foods at once. That will just set you up for failure. Bad foods now and again won't hurt you too bad, just don't go overboard.
A high blood pressure diet is a great idea, even if you don't have high blood pressure. That's because the best cure for high blood pressure is prevention. By eating right and getting regular exercise, you can bring your blood pressure levels down and you can live a long and healthy life. A high blood pressure diet isn't the end of the world. In fact, there are many delicious choices that you have to choose from. The trick is to be creative and to educate yourself on what you can and cannot eat.
