Making Collectible Home Decor as Easy as 1-2-3

Collectible home décor has always been around; it just takes on various guises from time to time. You probably know of your grandmother's collection of silverware or your mothers pretty French country tablecloths. You may be intrigued with these collections and wondering how to start one of your own.

It's as easy as 1-2-3.

One: Pick Something You Like

It could be as simple as pencils or as expensive as Swarovski crystals. Whatever you choose, make sure you like it for what it is and not just a passing fad. Start collecting a few pieces at thrift stores, online sites or on your travels. If you want to spend big bucks, you can get a jump start on collectible home décor by purchasing few or more items from a store.

Many collectors however do not like doing that as they feel that is an easy way out and only dependent on the size of your bank account. They prefer collections that are true to their name i.e. collected over the years and not just on one shopping spree. They like it when each piece tells a story of its own.

Two: Spread the Word

Tell your friends and family about your decision to start a home décor collection of say tea pots or thimbles and share some of your best finds with them. That will be hint enough to know what to get you as presents and when an exquisite teapot catches their fancy on a trip to Mexico.

Three: Display Your Collectible Home Decor

Depending on the item, get a shelf, display cabinet, table or book to preserve and display your treasure. Depending on its value and breakability factor, you may want to opt for a glass-enclosed lighted cabinet for delicate porcelain or just your coffee table for ‘Frogs around the World'.

Learn more about the pieces you collect online or at the library so that you have interesting tales to tell when people admire your collectible home décor. The main thing to remember is to stick to a theme regardless of how wacky it is or seems to others. People have rubber ducky collections in their kid's bathrooms and Cabbage Patch Doll collections from their childhood. Any thing can become part of your collectible home décor, if you collect it and integrate it in to your home.

Who knows, your great grand children may all contend for your precious flip-flop collection which you started after reading an article on the web!
