The easiest way to protect your house against such horrible mishaps is to make it unassailable with the help of a good home security system. This system maybe very expensive or it could be just costing within $100, it does not matter. Make sure it is installed, and also make sure that it works well and make sure it is wired to the local police station, so even without you calling them they will know if something goes amiss.

There is another very serious aspect of the installation of the home security system. Ensure that the system does not have the same electricity feeder as the house has. Many ‘clever' burglars cut off the power, thus thinking they have disabled the alarm of the home security system as well. If they can do so, then your home security system is useless. Hence, ensure that the home security system gets is supply form batteries, or any other source of electricity which should ensure round the clock functionality.

Once you are convinced that the system is functional and in place, run a few tests and see does it work well or not. Check with different window breaks-ins and see whether the window alarms go off when anybody enters through them. Check all the possible combinations and have the police station informed that testing was going on or you will have them in your backyard every time the alarm sounds off.

Advertise heavily that you have installed a state-of-the-art home security system. There is nothing can put off a thief than the knowledge that he/she is running into danger of being caught and/or identified. There are phony cameras available in the market for a few bucks a piece. Have a couple of these installed at strategic places in the open. This will camouflage the real stuff. The cameras, signs and the real stuff that you have already installed are complementary to each other.
