Hotels Or An Alternative?

Hotels are, for me a luxury that I fully appreciate. As a child our annual vacation always meant two weeks camping. When I grew older camping had long lost it's thrill so, whenever I could afford it, I would stay bed and breakfast in the cheapest lodging I could find. On most occasions they were not exactly "luxury" but the rooms were often well kept and very pleasant and the meals excellent. It was only when I was much older and in well paid employment that I considered staying in a hotel.

The first time I stayed in a hotel was in London, England and I was extremely pleased with my choice. I had a lovely room with en suite facilities, a min bar, you name it and it was there. It was, without doubt, the most excellent accommodation I had ever experienced and I decided then that I would, in future, always book a hotel.

I have not yet had the pleasure of staying in a luxury hotel and I look forward to it this year. The hotels I have stayed in so far have been 4 star and very, very good but I plan a stay in a 5 star hotel on my next break.

Since having a family I have learnt to appreciate the ease of making my hotel reservation online. It's simply so easy, I just pop to my favorite search engine and put the name of the town followed by the work hotel and I have a million choices ranging from discount hotels right up to the top luxury hotels. I usually go to a hotel site that offers the widest choice so I prefer those sites that list plenty of them together so I can make comparisons. I hate those sites that only list about 5 hotels and then ask you to move to a new page as it takes me ages to find one! Anyway, in general, booking online is easy. All you do is find the hotel you want, put in the dates and the type of room you want and off it goes to check availability. Seconds later you are ready to input your card details and a minute later you are booked - great stuff.

On a recent trip to Stirling in Scotland we hit motor problems and were delayed considerably so we needed somewhere to stay. When our car was fixed it was pretty late so we took a drive around looking for a hotel or guest house but we were in the middle of nowhere. I then had a brainwave and phoned a pal who went onto the net, found a hotel, made the booking and then gave me directions - all in a matter of minutes. The hotel was not too far away and it was off the main road so we would never have found it otherwise. The place was brilliant, there were no problems with the booking and the place was so nice that we decided to stay there for the rest of our time away.

So, if you are in the process of planning a vacation think about looking online before making reservations. If you are looking for cheap hotels you will find this your best option. Most sites have reviews of hotels which also help greatly in the decision.
