Different Hypnosis Techniques Result In Different Effects
By Irvine Harper
Hypnotists all over the world tend to use one main procedure for hypnosis. This method has proven to be the most effective when it comes to successfully hypnotizing patients. However, because every patient is so different, hypnotists have come to use various hypnosis techniques to personalize the experience for each patient.
Sometimes, they vary the hypnosis techniques based on whether the patient is a child or an adult. Other times, the hypnosis techniques depend on whether or not the patient has been previously hypnotized. These various hypnosis techniques provide a better experience for not only the patient, but everyone involved.
Variations on Hypnosis Techniques
One of the main variations on hypnosis techniques is that between an adult and a child. The typical adult hypnosis session lasts for twenty or thirsty minutes, whereas a child's hypnosis session will only last for a few minutes. This is because, while the goal of adult hypnosis is to guide the brain into the alpha range (sub conscious), the state of children's brains are already either in the alpha range or near to it. Thus, it takes less time for children to be hypnotized than adults.
Another hypnosis technique is to shorten the procedure. This can be accomplished after the patient has already been hypnotized once, in one of the two following ways: the susceptibility of the patient and the power of post-hypnotic suggestion. Some people are just naturally more susceptible to being hypnotized than others; however, as a general rule, it is easier to be hypnotized after you have already experienced it once before.
Additionally, the hypnotist can use the hypnosis technique of post-hypnotic suggestion. Post-hypnotic suggestion involves the suggestion of the idea that, the next time the patient is hypnotized, the process will be ten times faster. This is suggested while the patient is still in the hypnotized state. Post-hypnotic suggestion usually lasts anywhere from two days to two weeks.
Finally, if the patient feels really comfortable with the hypnotic process and hypnosis techniques, they could attempt to hypnotize themselves. Self-hypnosis involves making an audio cassette tape of your own hypnotic procedure and hypnosis techniques, and then listening to it for twenty to thirty minutes every day. It is important that, prior to listening to the self-hypnosis tape, the patient remembers to relax and attempts to focus on one item in the room. This will make them more susceptible to the hypnotic process. Some people have found this technique more successful than others.
