Instructions For Jewelry Making Changes With Materials Choice
By Charles Wilkinson
Every person has his or her own method of making jewelry and depending on the type being made, the method can change. However, there are a few common instructions for jewelry making that cross all borders of style and materials. Some of the obvious differences will encompass a difference in materials used. For example, jewelry-making using beads and string will be significantly different from using wire and metals.
First on your agenda of instructions for jewelry making will be to decide the type of jewelry you want to make. Many start with the adventure of costume jewelry as it requires less of an investment in tools as well as materials and the materials are usually easier to work with. Simple hand tools can be used to form many of the designs and an inexpensive soldering iron can be used to fasten the metals together.
In all cases, you may want to invest in what is often referred to as a third hand. This is a device that is weighted and has one, sometimes two small metal clips to hold your materials while you work. This can be helpful when soldering in that you can have one hand to hold the iron and one to hold the solder. Having the piece you are working on held steady helps, but so does not having it burn your hand when it gets hot.
Steady Hands Needed For Making Jewelry
One thing none of the instructions for jewelry making include is having a steady hand to make sure all the pieces going together are straight and even. Being able to hold two pieces together while they are being soldered is important to increase the quality of your product. Having it look professional will help sales.
If you are making jewelry for sale, then the instructions for jewelry making should include how to set up your office and make sure you have all the permits and licenses in place before you begin. If you do not plan to sell your jewelry then that is something not to worry about, but remember, if you do not make money at it, consider it a hobby.
Regardless of your immediate intent, instructions for jewelry making advises the tools you buy be of good quality. Due to daily use tools will wear out and cheap ones will break easily and not perform as expected. Do not scrimp on your tools. Consider the cost of the materials you may be working with and plan on tools to suit their use.
