Plot Your Home Landscaping For Success
By Jim Carpenter
When getting started on home landscaping you need to first sit down and draw up a plan. A plan will help you to keep things organized, make sure the final product will look good and seek out problems before you encounter them. There are some aspects of landscaping design that you can incorporate into your plan to make sure that your home landscaping project looks like something a professional has done. By using these landscaping aspects or principles, as they are called, you can design a home landscaping plan that will make you the envy of your neighbors.
Evaluating Your Lawn Before Starting
The first thing you have to do is evaluate or look over your lawn. You need to look at the amount of space with which you have to work, the growing conditions and any special problems that your lawn may have. You should consider how you want the final landscape to look, too. By evaluating your lawn you should be able to get a good idea of the basic information you need to start designing the landscaping plan and choosing plants.
The Landscaping Principles
The first principle in landscaping design is functionality. The whole idea of landscaping is to make your home look better from the street. When people drive by or even come to your home, your landscaping is the first thing they see. You want it to be inviting and pleasant. You also want it to be a way for people to easily get from the driveway or street to your front door.
The second principle is design. This principle actually has several different concepts associated with it. Basically design means that the landscape looks balanced and interesting. This includes concepts like unity, balance, interest and symmetry. By using basic design concepts you will be able to create a home landscaping design that works throughout the year and looks great with your home.
Your home landscaping plan can be written out or it can be a sketch of what you are going to do. The idea is to plan out everything from plant types you will use to placement of the plants. It is also important not to forget to include extra landscaping items, like stones, borders or fencing. Once you have finished, your home landscaping plan should be a blueprint you can work from to complete the project easily and quickly.
