Keys To Success When Starting A Landscaping Business
By Jim Carpenter
Starting a landscaping business takes more than simply knowing how to garden or plant trees. Landscaping takes knowledge about design and other landscaping principles. It takes a creative flair for being able to put together plants, trees, shrubs and other landscaping devices to create a beautiful, eye pleasing final product. If you are thinking of starting a landscaping business then you probably already have a background or training in landscaping.
The next step is creating a solid business plan. A business plan simply outlines your business and your plans for your business. They are used to help keep your business organized and keep you one track with your goals. Business plans are also helpful when you try to secure funding for your business, as lenders like to see your plans in writing so they know you have set goals and a workable budget for your business.
Planning Your Business Budget
You must plan out your business finances to ensure you are on track with spending. Unless you have an unlimited source of money, you will have to make sure that you consider every expense that you will incur. You have to consider everything from labor to supplies to transportation to repairs. You should also consider future needs, like more equipment and off season down time. Your business plan budget has to account for every cent of money you will put into it.
Labor And Your Business Plan
Labor is another big part of your business plan. Your landscaping business will likely require more than just you to run and operate it. You will need to include in your business plan how you will recruit workers, how you will pay them and where they will come from. This is an important part of your business plan because you are going to need to show that you can get qualified workers without a problem to help you run and maintain your business.
Planning For Equipment
Equipment is going to be a big part of your landscaping business. You will want to get the best possible equipment you can. This way it will last longer and cost less to maintain than if you buy cheaper equipment. You should have outlined in your business plan exactly what type of equipment you will be buying, including the brand name and price.
Marketing And Sales
Besides the budget, labor and equipment, your business plan needs to cover marketing and sales. You need to have a well established marketing plan. You should have everything listed in your business plan, from sale angles to your target market. You should be able to take your business plan and use it as a guide to setting up your landscaping business marketing.
