Fun Landscaping Design Ideas For Your Yard!
By Jim Carpenter

If you have no idea what to do with your yard and only know that you'd like something different, here are some landscaping design ideas for you backyard or garden! Some fun ideas in landscaping design are to use color palettes to plant with complementary colors or to use plants of a single color entirely.

White Is Nice

For example, consider creating a garden entirely in white to give your yard a cool, elegant feel with white jasmine, iceberg roses, white hydrangeas, and so forth. You could also do a garden filled with soothing blues and purples and include plants like salvias, lobelias, and lupins. Landscaping design ideas like these are sure to get your creative juices flowing!

Texture Can Be Better

Here are two landscaping design ideas for you. One is to create an ornamental grass garden, and the other is to create a succulent garden! Both will provide a lot of different textures, shapes, and colors! Ornamental grasses come in short tufted versions like mondo grasses in dark purple-black colors, or tall, grasses with gently waving seedheads.

Much like bamboo, they can also provide a nice, soothing sound when the wind blows through the taller grasses as well. They also provide a lot of different textures and colors; although a succulent garden may not be as flashy, it has several advantages.

One is that it provides a lot of textural appeal with plants like the echevaria with its tight rosettes, or sempervivums which have a similar appearance. They can even provide some interesting colors as well.

Another direction to go in is with tropical landscaping design ideas. Consider going with a garden of tropical ferns and palms to create an emerald-colored garden, or add in flowering plants like shell gingers, heliconias, birds of paradise, and so forth. You can also add in bromeliads and epiphytic orchids and create your own personal rainforest in your backyard!

Don't Leave Out The Veggies!

Still another idea for you is to create an heirloom vegetable garden! A good site to visit is heirloomseeds.com, which has heirloom varieties of vegetables ranging from, beans and tomatoes, to corn and melons.

With an heirloom vegetable garden, you'd have access to fresh vegetables that taste better than anything you can find in the supermarket! Hopefully, you'll try one of these landscaping design ideas or be inspired to come up with your own; now get out there and start gardening!
