There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration with this particular procedure, primarily due to the fact that it is a procedure which deals with the eyes and so therefore it is an extremely delicate one.
Lasik eye surgery is truly a great procedure; as it can greatly reduce or even completely eliminate the need of reliance on such things as glasses or contact lenses, thus greatly improving the quality of one's life overall.
However, as with any other type of procedure, you will need to realize all of the risks and complications that are involved with it. After all, you want to be prepared for the worst, just in case it did happen, so that you will be ready for it and not be totally unprepared for it.
Risks and Complications
There are several different risks and complications in particular that need to be considered in this regards by you the possible patient, such as: some patients lose vision, some develop debilitating visual symptoms, you have the risk of being over or under treated, you may develop severe dry eye syndrome, there is the fact that results are generally not as good in patients with very large refractive errors of any type, for some farsighted patients results may diminish with age, and long-term data for this procedure is not yet available.
In other words, although the benefits that are known now are there, this procedure is so relatively new that no long-term benefits are truly known about as of yet, and so there may be problems in the future for people who go through this procedure, problems that they will not be informed on until they actually happen.
Overall however, the most important thing is that you take the proper time and consideration so that you can make the best decisions possible, and so that you will be fully satisfied in the end. Although this particular procedure is not all that expensive, there is still the safety factor which is involved in every type of procedure, and so you need to think about that and take that very seriously into consideration. After all, it is your body that is involved in this procedure.
