Lingerie Is For Women

In a world where people are careful about being sexist or racist, there are many terms that have been changed in order not to offend anyone. Instead of a chairman, there is a chairperson. Instead of a congressman, there is a congressperson. These changes have not been in existence or commonly used for many years. They are fairly recent additions to the proper use of the English language. Lingerie is sleepwear and underwear for women. This word will rarely be used to describe the sleepwear or underwear for men. Anyone using this word to describe men's garments will sound very strange indeed.

Lingerie implies garments that are adorned with lace and frills. The English word comes from the French, and it is used to describe several different types of women's undergarments. Currently in formal usage, this term does not necessarily mean that the undergarments are lacy and frilly. The garments described as lingerie are underwear including brassieres, panties, hosiery and sleepwear for women. Some of these garments are very fancy and come in a wide variety of colors. Lingerie is a necessary item although some of it is much frillier and fancier than the basic models. The available models range in style, color and size, but the choices women make when buying lingerie are very personal and individual.

Lingerie Can Be Cotton or It Can Be Silk

The styles vary widely as do the prices. Lingerie is available in the low cost superstores and in the exclusive department stores. Some is made from durable, dependable, comfortable cotton in basic black or white. Some is made from the finest silk in mauve, taupe and shades of peach. Some people pay a few dollars for a bra while others pay hundreds of dollars. Some sleepwear has lots of exquisite lace or maybe a feather boa on the collar of the robe. Other sleepwear is made from flannel with little or no trim of any kind. The sizes vary from petite to extra large so there is lingerie available no matter how big or small the consumer.

Shoppers can find lingerie on websites, or they can go to the superstores to purchase their lingerie in person. At the stores, shoppers have a chance to try on the garments to make sure the fit is good. The first description of lingerie included brassieres, panties and sleepwear. The number of different models in each of these categories is astounding. Panties now come in bikini, thongs, regular style or boy's styles. Yes, boy's styles for girls.
