Hashing Out The Pros And Cons Of Liposuction
By M. A. Fulmar
Surgery is rarely a decision to be made lightly, especially if your medical authority is deeming it something prudent. With few exceptions, cosmetic surgery is not normally a necessary kind of procedure. For something like liposuctions, there are pros and cons that need to be considered before even meeting with the surgeon.
You can find plenty of research online about the pros and cons of liposuction. Your family physician should also be able to assist you. Being in good physical health is very important; it is likely your general practitioner will be asked to verify the state of your health and clear you for any surgery.
Weighing It All Out
It is completely understandable and expected to have some concerns over the pros and cons of having liposuction. Your chosen surgeon should be asking plenty of his or her own questions during the initial consultation.
* Why are you looking to have cosmetic surgery?
* Do you exercise regularly?
* What is your diet like?
He should also want to know if your weight has fluxuated much over the recent years. Liposuction is not a quick weight loss solution, and this is something you need to be aware of before proceeding. You will still need to follow a healthy, sensible diet and exercise regularly. Knowing you are looking the best you ever have is a sure plus, and something to also keep in mind.
Your surgeon will also most likely discuss the pros and cons of liposuction with you more than once. As will a psychiatrist, if you are asked to visit one. There are a few smaller liposuction procedures that are the exception (like the knee and chin), but for the most part, you will be under general anesthesia during the process. Due to some negative stories in the media, this may be considered to be more a con than a pro of liposuction.
Something else to consider is the healing process after the surgery. Although you are not having a triple bypass, you are also not going to be able to hop back on your feet the next day. Not for a while actually. A one night minimum stay in the hospital is also required. You may need some assistance at home for a few days as well. Some people are less resilient following even minor surgeries. This may be another contributing factor in your decision to go ahead with having liposuction.
