Can You Increase Your Metabolism Naturally?
By M. A. Fulmar

There are many ways to naturally give your metabolism a boost. Regular exercise is important to a healthy metabolism. Eating frequent meals comprised of smaller portions of healthy, low-fat foods can stimulate your metabolism as well. Increasing muscle mass can also burn more calories around the clock, even while sleeping.

Despite these generally accepted ways to increase your metabolism naturally, the market is flooded with products that promise to increase metabolism and melt away the pounds. The majority of these products produce only minimal results and can be costly to the consumer. Some weight loss supplements have even been found to pose risks to your health.

Another popular school of thought is that you can naturally increase your body's metabolism through altering your diet. While some dietary changes may help increase your metabolism to some extent, there are no “miracle foods” that will help you shed weight ata remarkable rate or make your body burn fat while you sleep. Many fad diets have come and gone that promise to increase metabolism and shed fat. One such diet is the negative calorie foods diet.

The negative calorie foods diet

The prevailing theory behind the negative calorie food diet is that some foods burn more calories during digestion than are present in the foods themselves and therefore force the body to tap into it's stores energy to completely digest these foods. Claims have also been made that regularly consuming negative calorie foods can naturally increase your metabolism. This theory, however, is not proven fact and is widely debated among nutritionists and physicians.

Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is recommended by nutritionists as a part of any healthy diet. The foods encouraged by the negative calorie diet may not necessarily be effective in naturally increasing your body's metabolism, but they will provide essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function properly.

Fad diets come and go. Some are harmful, most are unpleasant. The negative calorie foods diet appears to be a pleasant change from the normal fad diet in it's choice of a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. It also is lacking in any unusual recommendations such as only eating between two and four am, or following every meal with a deluge of grapefruit of cabbage.

When looking to naturally increase your body's metabolism, it's best to stick to nature and understand how metabolism works. An educated dieter is a successful dieter.
