The Advantages Of Plasma Monitors
By Fraser Higgins
There are many computer monitors on the market today to satisfy and meet the visual needs of the computer enthusiast. One of those types of monitors is a CRT monitor. This monitor contains a cathode ray tube and is a traditional monitor that facilitates adequate performance in displaying the computer visuals.
Another version of a computer monitor is an LCD computer monitor. LCD stands for liquid crystal display and is a considerable upgrade from the CRT. The LCD computer monitor provides a number of benefits. Those benefits include the LCD computer monitor maximizing computer space as well as providing excellent graphics for the avid computer user.
In addition to these two types of monitors there are plasma monitors. Some of the advantages of plasma monitors include high resolution of images and no scan lines.
How A Plasma Monitor Functions
The image from a computer is captured on a plasma monitor through the use of phosphors. The multi-colored phosphors are portrayed in the basics colors of red, blue and green. When activated, the plasma monitor captures the phosphors which are then pressed against small chambers. These chambers are constructed of glass. Additionally, the glass chambers contain a gas which is in the form of plasma.
When the gas is stimulated with electricity, the result is an ultraviolet light. This ultraviolet light then comes in contact with the cells which cause the images to be visualized.
Higher Resolution
One of the major advantages of plasma monitors is the high resolution that can be displayed. This high resolution translates into exceptional high quality viewing.
Resolution is comprised of pixels. A pixel is the smallest unit of measurement that combines with other pixels to comprise the image for viewing. The greater the number of pixels, the greater the resolution and therefore, the greater is the clarity of the image being viewed on the monitor.
No Scan Lines
Another advantage of plasma monitors is the technology surrounding the process of scan lines. On a traditional cathode ray tube monitor, an electronic beam scans the picture tube. This process would occur as the beam would move from the top to the bottom of the tube during specific time frames. However, because this process was done at specified intervals there appeared on the monitor scan lines.
Plasma monitors are designed with a feature that removes these obvious scan lines. That technique is the technology known as line doubling. This technique allows for the image to be seamless.
