Mother's day is celebrated around the world on different days mainly because of the way they came into origin in different countries. Mother's day is the perfect time to show your love and appreciation to your mother by sending her flowers and/or different gifts. UK mother's day is also known as ‘Mothering day' and is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which this year will fall on 13th of May. In the older days when churches were not available in every small town, the Sunday church goers would visit the nearest church, which was known as the ‘daughter church' however, every year it was important that one visit their home town church also known as ‘mother church', which was usually done during Lent. The tradition of the UK mother's day started when the children who were to work as servants in various homes would be given the fourth Sunday of the Lent off in order to visit their ‘mother church' and would thus, celebrate at home with their mothers and family.

UK Mother's Day Today

Today UK mother's day is directed only towards celebrating the mother's around the country even if some may also visit the church on the same day as it always falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent. UK mother's day is celebrated by sending flowers and gifts in order to let mothers know how much they are loved and cherished. Children try to make it home for mother's day today as well but, when not possible they ensure that their thoughts of love and appreciation are sent to their mothers through cards, phone calls and various other gifts.

The Importance of Mother's Day around the World

Mother's day is acknowledged and celebrated around the world in order to ensure that all children realize how important their mothers are in their existence and thus, take the time to show their appreciation and love in return. Many of us take for granted the love and sacrifices mothers make and often realize too late how fortunate you have been to have her in your life. Celebrate mother's day every year and let your mother know how much she means to you irrelevant where in the world you may be; call, send a card and best of all tell her that you love and cherish her everyday of your life. She will surely treasure this as a wonderful sentiment.
