Changes in Cat Nutrition as it Ages
By M. A. Fulmar

Pet cats offer the best possible combination of minimum maintenance and maximum pleasure and gratitude by just watching its loving nature. Cats are extremely loving and don't need to be walked outdoors everyday, which make them the perfect pets for those of us that lead a busy life, live in an apartment, are alone and still want to have someone waiting for them when they get home.

However, even thought you can get away without being there most of the day, not having to exercise or walk your pet outdoors, you must ensure the cat's nutrition is balanced and offered in a timely fashion.

What You Should Know about Cat Nutrition

Like humans, cat nutrition is different at every stage. As a kitten, your pet will need extra supplements and vitamins in order to build his or her immune system and make it strong. A kitten should get food regularly three times a day in order for her body to grow strong and healthy. As an adult, cat nutrition will change in order to provide a balanced diet and you can give your cat food twice a day. However, you must provide your cat with fresh water everyday and even twice a day if possible as water is extremely important just as it is a human diet.

Your cat's nutrition will change as he or she gets older and you will need to adjust it according to the health condition he or she is in. Regular vet check ups will let you know if the metabolism has slowed down or if your cat has developed any other diseases in due course.

Other Helpful Tips

Dry cat food is great for ensuring that your cat's teeth are cleaned everyday plus they contain essential vitamins and minerals. You can mix it in gravy if you cat does not like to eat it separately.

Your cat's nutrition should also include vitamins and minerals during winter when due to extreme cold your cat is exposed to many different types of diseases. The vet will be able to draw out the right diet for your cat as well as check his or her ideal weight. Many pet owners make the mistake to overfeed the cat or any other pet out of love for him or her but they don't realize at that time that they are actually putting their pet's health in danger and may even be shortening his or her life.
