Pediatric Nutrition: An Important Factor In Your Child's Health

Pediatrician's clinics are often lined with children; sneezing, coughing, sniffing, whining and hurting. In the winter month's, it seems to increase to an even greater number, and the vicious cycle of sickness seems to never come to an end. Children are exposed to a variety of germs, viruses, and bacteria in their daily lives, especially in day care centers or when they around many other children. This unfortunate part of a child's life can be greatly reduced when the child receives proper pediatric nutrition on a regular basis. This fundamental part of a healthy lifestyle is often overlooked and/or ignored by both parents and doctors alike. In our modern society, we look for a quick fix, and we have the mind-set that a pill will cure us. This is faulty thinking, as many of the current problems that children have can be healed and cured with a proper, healthy diet.
The Basics Of Healthy Pediatric Nutrition
Healthy pediatric nutrition begins with what “not” to include in a child's daily diet. Thousands of children are growing up in their formative years on little more than a diet that is totally void of any nutritional value. Processed foods and fast-foods compose the worst type of food you can give to a youngster. These foods contain chemicals and other ingredients that are detrimental to the child's health on many levels. The immune system is weakened by a constant bombardment of “dead” foods. Eventually, there is a breakdown that will weaken the child's body and cause a plethora or autoimmune conditions, including asthma and digestive diseases. Taking out these processed foods is the first step in helping to sustain proper pediatric nutrition for your child.
Eating a primarily “whole” foods diet is another essential part of healthy pediatric nutrition. Food should be prepared in the home from healthy meats, whole grains, and organic fruits and vegetables, if possible. Even when one cannot find or afford organic foods, choosing these foods in their original state is preferable to a processed form, such as a microwave dinner. Providing the child with plenty of healthy protein foods is a must, as protein helps the child grow and flourish. Animal foods such as lean red meat, ocean-caught fish, pasture-fed eggs, and clean organic dairy are all good choices to make in the protein category, as well as beans and raw nuts and seeds.
Choosing clean water over pasteurized juices out of a box or can is a much healthier choice for pediatric nutrition, as too much sugar, even fruit juices, can lower immune function and cause health issues such as hyperactivity. Eating salads and raw veggies is a great way to boost your child's health, as well as fresh fruit instead of sugary, starchy sweets. Molding your child's eating habits early will provide wonderful benefits for them when they are older, as they will not struggle with food addictions and a “sweet tooth” as do many adults. No matter how much work it takes to make these necessary changes in a child's diet, it is absolutely worth it to see them grow healthy, strong and vibrant in the childhood years.
