Chester Cheetah Is Getting All Natural: Cheetos: An Unlikely Organic Food Product
By Rose Hannigan

Finding an organic food product that is both healthy and tasty is difficult; it would be easier to just stay off your diet, and make up for the calories at the gym. The growing trend in looking at our waistlines and what we're eating is sending mainstreams back to the kitchen to create the next new organic food product. An unlikely participant in this shift toward healthier snacks is Frito-Lay, one of the leading producers of snacks such as potato chips, corn chips and Cheetos. Jumping on the bandwagon, Frito-Lay has a line of healthier snacks; so now the seemingly impossible has happened: the Cheeto has become an organic food product.

Is It Healthy?

Is the organic Cheeto healthy? Well, it's healthier than its original counterpart, regular Cheeto; still one must remember that Cheetos, organic or not, are snack foods and should be treated as such – eaten at moderation. Its calorie-count is relatively high; a 1 oz serving has 80 grams of fat (the standard Cheetos has 90 grams, so it's not that much different). The ingredients are more natural (and recognizable) and while it's not been proven that organic food is better for you, it doesn't hurt to seek out an organic food product, which may, later be proven to be healthier.

Eating The “Natural” Cheetos Will Do Away With Neon Orange Dust

A benefit of eating the “natural” Cheetos is that the organic aspect of the snack will not leave your hands almost-permanently stained bright neon orange. Because the organic Cheetos do not have the crazy pumpkin orange food dye, you are left with clean hands when you eat the healthier Cheetos. While the dye is not harmful, it is much easier on the mind when eating that the food you eat do not leave a brightly colored trail on your hands that take days of washing to get rid of.

Frito-Lay Tries To Make Its Other Products Into Organic Food

It's not just the Cheeto that Frito-Lay has recast as an organic food product. The popular Dorito – a tortilla corn ship, flavored with cheese has also been part of the Natural snacks. There is also potato chips and nuts, as well. Frito-Lay is changing the look of the organic food product by incorporating highly flavorful snacks, and trying to incorporate organic aspects into it mainstream products.
