From Italian Fashion Leader to Perfume – Gucci Does it All!
By Mary Henderson
The Gucci fashion line had relatively humble beginnings and originally started out as a small family business that mainly sold leather goods. Gucci rose to prominence in the fashion industry at the hand of Guccio Gucci, who founded his saddlery shop in 1906.
It was later in 1938 that Gucci opened its first boutique. Eventually, Guccio Gucci's initials (GG) became one of the most recognized symbols of this line in the 1960s. Gucci perfume was an offshoot of the famous brand, and it seems to be a fairly common practice these days for fashion lines to branch out into the perfume industry.
Smells Like Leather?
Gucci got into perfume during the 1990s, and you can find both men's and women's fragrances. Even the packaging seems suitably fashionable, with clean lines & the GG logo in pink on the packaging for the Gucci women's perfume called Envy Me. This particular perfume by Gucci has a lot of interesting accents such as pomegranate, pink pepper, pineapple, and litchi.
It also contains sandalwood, musk, and floral scents. Envy Me retails for around $82 for 3.4 ounces of their eau de toilette. For men who desire a strong scent, the Pour Homme Eau De Toilette is available at around $62 for 3.4 ounces and one of its notes is, of course, leather. Envy for Men is also available, as is a limited edition perfume by Gucci for women called Envy Me2.
Suffice it to say that you can generally find discounted perfumes at various websites, so you should always do a Google search before purchasing your Gucci perfume at a major retailer's website. You never know what bargains you might find after all!
Another nice scent to try is the Gucci Eau de Parfum II, which has a lot of fruit in it with notes like blackberry and mandarin, along with nice floral touches like jasmine and heliotrope. Being an eau de parfum, it is more expensive than the eau de toilette.
It retails for around $65 for 1.7 ounces, so if you wanted 3.4 ounces (compared to the Envy Me Eau de Toilette at $82) it would run you around $130. The reason for the price difference is that eau de parfum contains a higher concentration of perfume oils.
For an eau de toilette, the fragrance should contain 4-10% perfume oil, and an eau de parfum will have between 8-15% perfume oil in it. That concludes this article on Gucci perfume!
