Make a Statement with Artistic Photography

There are many ways for a person to express themselves creatively. Some like to write, others like to paint, while others choose photography. Artistic photography is a way for people to show the poignancy of what they see to other people at the same time.

About Artistic Photography

Artistic photography has been around since the invention of cameras in the 1800s. The earliest examples of artistic photography were no so much artistic as they were poignant, meaning specifically the photographs of the battlefield taken during the Civil War.

Of course, early artistic photography had to be simples, since cameras were only capable of taking black and white photographs. The subjects were often major landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower in France.

As time went on, artistic photography became more varied. As cameras began to become more advanced, so did the subject of the photographs. They also became rather risqué as well, as a popular form of artistic photography was female nude photographs.

In the latter part of the 20th century, artistic photography was really coming into its own. Photographs were now in color, and people were using that feature to their full advantage. Artistic photography became a way to highlight the plight of humankind, not just a way to show different landmarks.

This kind of photography highlighted the lives of homeless people, and people from remote places all over the world. As cameras became increasingly more advanced, the ability to magnify an object made is another kind of art, in that it could be abstract since people could not immediately tell what it was.

Artistic photography has also become the medium for other kinds of art. For example, one of the challenges on the television show Project Runway was for the contestants to take pictures around New York City and create a garment based on what they saw. One designer took a picture of graffiti on a wall, and made a dress from the concept of that photograph.

The best thing about artistic photography is that there is not one definition of it. It is whatever you want to take a picture of and consider to be art. If you think that it would be fun to take a magnified picture of a flower, that is art. If you think that you would like to take a picture of an old sneaker, that is art too. So embrace this wonderful creative hobby!
