Model Photography as a Self-Marketing Tool

There are many instances where model photography can make a very challenging profession. However, most of the time, it is the right combination of fun and hard work. People who pursue model photography will know how important it is for a model to look good in all the pictures he or she takes. In addition, it takes real hard work to be able to keep a person looking great in photographs all the time.

The Model and Model Photography Are Highly Interdependent

Often a model will look for a job with the leading advertisement agencies he or she knows, desperate for an interview. Here, the most efficient tool of the models is their portfolio. This is where they compile their credentials as well as file their photographs as a proof of their capacity to fit in to any particular ad. The agency goes through the portfolio, and if they find the photographs impressive enough, they will call the model(s) for an interview.

In this connection model photography becomes an excellent tool. Some models, instead of offering their portfolio (which is very expensive and time taking to makes), prefer to leave their composite cards. You can consider the composite card for the model, just as you would consider the business card for a businessperson, i.e. the first contact information sheet.

The first thing you should know and realize is that there are millions out there who look as good as you or even better. Why should the advertiser choose your resume above that of others? If you ask yourself this question, you will realize how important the role of a contact sheet is. Hence, if you want to attract the right kind of attention, make sure that the first impression is right. Make sure you create the right impact at the very first time. You will not get a second chance to create your first impression.

The composite card will have your headshot on the front and at four or five long shots in different positions and postures on the back. The other information besides your name, which you will need to have printed on each and every composite card you are offering as a resume for your model photography assignment are:

1. Your previous experience (never leave this column free; if nothing else write that you have volunteered at some place or invent something plausible)
2. Type of work you would prefer to do
3. Your vital statistics (height, weight, chest size, waist size, hip size and so on),

Then, follow it up diligently, just as you would do with your resume when you apply for a job.
