Wedding Photography Captures the Essence of Your Wedding
By Andrew Kelly
If you are planning a wedding, the wedding photography is one of the most important services that you will hire. It is this one company that will capture your wedding, moment by moment, for you in its entirety. While you most likely hire a wedding videographer, the wedding photography will capture the moment in still frame. Any wedding consultant or wedding planner would strongly encourage extensive research and an in-person interview with each potential candidate prior to signing any contract. It is also suggested that you interview more that one candidate to get a good idea of what is available.
Appearances Can Be Deceiving
When I hired my wedding photographer, we met to discuss how the wedding would be photographed. I was specific in my request, stating that I wanted both color and black and white wedding photography taken before, during and after the service. He assured me this was no problem. I provided a detailed list of “who's who” in the wedding party and extended family members, a complete written outline of the photographs that I wanted taken prior to, during and after the service. He assured me that he was able to provide all of these services. He was sincere, polite and totally believable; looking back now, through the eyes of experience, should have looked further but I was young and he appeared to be a professional. In the competitive business of wedding photography, it is important to look below the surface; look through multiple wedding photo albums of each prospective photographer, contact references from previous bridal couples and inquire as to their professional history with the Better Business Bureau.
Interview of Brides About Their Own Wedding Experiences
When the wedding photography was delivered to my husband and I, we realized that he missed taking any photos of my Mother (the Mother of the Bride), my “Man of Honor” (my brother/best friend) and my Matron of Honor (my sister-in-law); 2/3 of the wedding party was not visible in the still photos of the traditional walk down the aisle. The wedding photographers excuse, “something happened with his flash.” He did not provide any black and white proofs, having forgotten to take any. Only a handful of photos he had taken were of any quality at all. In the end, my husband and I used family and friends photos to preserve our wedding history and the proofs we had paid for are filed away in a drawer, not worth even having out on the coffee table or bookshelf. Do not make the same mistakes that I did, research any and all services for your wedding, it is one day you won't want bad customer service.
