How Can You Find the Best Preschool Center for Your Child?
By Rosemary Phillips
Parents who have to leave their children in a preschool center are always tortured by the dilemma of whether they chose the right one or not for their little ones. There are so many horror stories where children are abused, drugged, beaten, intimidated, and so on in these preschool centers, that you do not need much imagination to start worrying.
A Checklist for Finding the Right Preschool Center
There are many ways to ensure that your child gets the best attention possible. Of course, the first choice is to have one of the parents full-time with the child, preferably the mother, since she is emotionally more geared for the needs of the child in its formative years. However, fathers too are doing a great job, and this is not meant to discount their role and capacity to bond and care for their children.
When both parents work, then the question arises for choosing the right preschool center for your child. This article has compiled a small list which you could use as a guide in your search for perfection.
Identify all the preschool centers in your area, and start asking around for people's opinion about them. Word of mouth is a very powerful feedback tool, and the overall picture can be pretty accurate.
Throw a few parties where you invite the “mommies” in the neighborhood, and hold an impromptu survey. You will be able to gain exceptional intelligence from their feedback. The best way to find out preferences is by finding out where they send their little ones. This is an excellent way to also find out what could be the limitations of these preschool centers, as well.
Ask the help of the local pediatrician (and the nurses there) – they are best informed about all matters regarding children, since their profession demands it. Their opinion would be very valuable in finding the right preschool center.
Find out whether the preschool center allows visits at any time. Though this is a slight inconvenience to the workers of the center, it can be an excellent way to find out how the child is treated at different times of the day – hence, there would be no way for any abuse.
Check the recruitment policies of the center. While educational qualifications are fine, the right qualifications would be those which pertain to understanding the psychology of the children. The recruitment policies would definitely indicate the quality of the care-givers.
