Which Quit Smoking Product Is The One For You?
By M. A. Fulmar
The push for smoker's to quit smoking has never been as great as it is today. With all the recent news and published medical evidence of the harm smoking can cause, the demand for smoker's to give up the habit has hit full swing. The idea, while quite simple, is nothing compared to actually quitting. It is very difficult to quit smoking and that is why there has been a large supply of quit smoking products.
The products that are available range from patches to pills to inhalers. Each quit smoking product is designed to cut the reliance on nicotine. Each smoker will find that certain products work better for them than others because each smoker is different. If you are trying to quit smoking using a product it is essential for you to find the product that is best for your needs so you can be successful.
Nicotine Patch
A nicotine patch is a quit smoking product that introduces small doses of nicotine into their body to cut down on withdraw symptoms. These patches range in size from about 2 inches to 1 inch. They stick onto the skin and release nicotine into the bloodstream. A new patch is used every 24 hours. There are both brand name and generic patches available and they can be purchases with or without a prescription. The good thing about the nicotine patch is that they are easy to use. You can simply apply the patch in the morning and forget about it the rest of the day.
It is also available in various dosages depending on the amount of cigarettes each person smokes, so a person gets as much nicotine as they need to help ward off withdraws and cravings. This also allows for a person to gradually reduce the amount of nicotine in their system so they can eventually quit using the product. The downside to the patch, though, is that unlike other methods, you can not adjust the amount of nicotine you receive. Some people experience skin irritation at the site of the patch and other side effects like dizziness and upset stomach can occur.
Nicotine Inhaler
The nicotine inhaler is one of the only products used to quit smoking that is similar to actually smoking. The inhaler looks and feels much like a cigarette. It is used just as you would smoke a cigarette. Instead of the harmful chemicals and smoke from a cigarette, you are inhaling a vapor that delivers nicotine to your system. It is available thorough prescription only.
The inhaler is a great substitute for cigarette smoking, especially if you are someone who simply enjoys the feeling of smoking. You also have control over dosage and can use it whenever you need to. It can help satisfy both the physical and mental cravings for a cigarette. A nicotine inhaler may cause coughing or irritation to the throat and mouth. It is also quite costly if not covered by insurance. It is possible to get too much nicotine which can cause nausea or dizziness.
Prescription Drugs
Most prescription drugs used as a quit smoking product contain no nicotine. Instead they treat the psychological effects that quitting causes. They are usually antidepressants that work to help control the craving. They are only available by prescription. Pills are easy to use and since they contain no nicotine are not addictive. However, they do have more side effects like insomnia and allergic reactions than other quit smoking products. When using any quit smoking product you might consider consulting your doctor, even if a prescription is not required. You should always follow all directions and never smoke when using a quit smoking product.
