Some Suffer with Diabetes and Restless Leg Syndrome
By Elizabeth Penning

Restless leg syndrome produces a feeling that there is a spider or insect on the leg of a person that brings an urge to get up and move about. This condition is not a serious condition and not usually very painful, but it is very disturbing at times to those afflicted. Diabetes is a much more serious condition that can have serious consequences. Diabetes and restless leg syndrome sometimes occur together for some people. Diabetes and restless leg syndrome are usually treated together with the medications that are prescribed by a physician.

Diabetes and restless leg syndrome are both considered to be hereditary in some people as there is often a history of the disease in the family of many afflicted by these conditions. Medical researchers have done much study of both of these conditions. Restless leg syndrome is sometimes caused by other factors besides diabetes. Pregnant women sometimes develop restless leg syndrome which disappears with the end of the pregnancy. There is also evidence that restless leg syndrome is caused by alcohol and caffeine consumption or a reaction to certain medications. Restless leg syndrome can affect the sleep patterns in an individual and this factor can interfere with the daily activities of those afflicted. Diabetes without treatment can have much more serious consequences.

Prescriptions for Diabetes and Restless Leg Syndrome Provide Relief

Medical researchers have found prescriptions for diabetes and restless leg syndrome. Physicians often prescribe at least moderate exercise or physical activity for patients suffering from both diabetes and restless leg syndrome. Those that suffer from both diabetes and restless leg syndrome can exercise and find some help for both conditions. Diabetes is the more serious disease so the other treatment for diabetes and restless leg syndrome are treatments for the diabetes. Those suffering with diabetes are often prescribed treatment with insulin. Those suffering with diabetes are often put on a strict diet as a treatment for the problems of the diabetic.

Diabetics often have serious problems with the feet and legs. Diabetes and restless leg syndrome are not always present in every person afflicted with either disease. Those that have the two conditions together should take great care of their legs and feet. Any injuries to the legs and feet should be treated immediately and carefully. One of the serious problems for diabetics is the need to amputate feet or legs because of complications from the disease.
