Rock Climbing Helmet: Could Mean The Difference Between Life And Death
By Brad Jones
Rock climbing is a fun and exhilarating experience but it's also dangerous. Even if you're in the controlled environment of a rock climbing training center or gym, falling can be serious, even at small heights. To further protect you against falls and injury, you should never rock climb without a rock climbing helmet. If you fall and you're not wearing a helmet, you could seriously hurt yourself or even kill yourself. Don't let this happen to you. If you are planning to rock climb, get yourself a good rock climbing helmet.
Make Sure It Fits
The most important aspect of the rock climbing helmet is to make sure that it fits correctly. Rock climbing helmets are designed to protect your head in case you fall. If the proper parts of your head aren't protected, for instance if the helmet slips, you could find yourself with very little protection, even though you're wearing the helmet. Have an expert gauge whether or not your helmet fits you correctly.
When you rock climb, you usually are wearing a harness, or at least you should be. This is to protect you from falling. Usually, in the instance that you do fall, the harness is attached to rope that will catch you so that you can get another hold on the wall to pull yourself up further. However, there have been instances where the ropes broke or the harnesses failed. Accidents happen. It can occur because of equipment malfunction or human error. Whatever the case, if this does happen, you'll want to be wearing a rock climbing helmet. Your arms and legs can break and you can usually survive. That is definitely not the case with your head. If your head breaks, you will never rock climb, or do anything else for that matter, ever again.
So, before you rock climb, make sure you have a proper rock climbing helmet and make sure it fits properly. Don't find yourself without protection in case you do fall. It should be noted, however, that people rarely fall in rock climbing. With proper instruction, you'll learn how to use the equipment properly and you'll learn the skill to ensure that you never fall. Just do yourself a favor and make sure that you are wearing a rock climbing helmet.
Some people don't wear rock climbing helmets because they feel they aren't cool or fashionable. However, looks aren't important when you're talking about safety. Never rock climb without a helmet, period. You'll be thankful you're wearing it when you accidentally fall and hit your head on the ground.
