How to Choose a Satellite TV Antenna
By Tony Cunningham

With the old broadcast televisions, antennas played a large role in receiving signals and channels. Just like the traditional way of watching television, satellite TV antennas are considered “must-have” equipment to provide users with a reliable reception for their satellite television, any time of the day and every time you wish to watch satellite TV.

You have a choice between indoor and outdoor satellite TV antennas. Indoor antennas are usually designed smaller to be positioned near your television set. On the other hand, outdoor antennas are usually larger to be placed on your attic or roof. Generally, satellite TV antennas with larger surface areas receive better signals. However, be aware that this is not always the case, because the capacity of reception will depend on largely on your location. Most outdoor satellite TV antennas perform better compared to the best indoor antennas in the market. Outdoor antennas have size and height advantage. In addition, signals that travel to an indoor antenna may be affected with the walls, floor, construction, home appliances and movement in your home.

Enhancing Reception of Indoor Satellite TV Antennas

In order to overcome height or size disadvantages, as well as increase signal receptions of indoor antennas, you need to use an electronic amplification. This amplifier can be automatically built into the antenna or it can be purchased separately and installed later, in between the television and antenna. When you install an amplifier into an outdoor satellite TV antenna, this amplifier is called “pre-amp or preamplifier”. Although you can improve the reception and increase signals, amplifiers can also amplify the noise, which can sometimes make the reception worse than it was before.

Fortunately, your other option is a new generation of off-air satellite TV antennas that can provide you with high-quality signals from your local TV broadcasters directly into your satellite TV subscription by just clicking an option from the remote. However, be aware that when you install this kind of antenna, you have to determine the appropriate location of the signals from your antenna, including the distance of your antenna from the location of signals and possible obstructions that may affect the transfer of signals.

Remember that accessories such as an external amplifier or a black for your satellite TV antenna, whether it may be indoor or outdoor, can strengthen your TV reception. You can also check for possible damages to your cables that connect with your television and replace them with new ones to receive better signals.
