Satellite Television Programming Providers

There are two major satellite television providers in America, DirecTV and Dish Network; each satellite programming package may differ between the providers, but many of the same channels will be offered by both.

Satellite TV programming packages are the channels included for one set fee per month or billing cycle, this programming usually will not change except by the customers request.

Packages Offerings

There are three basic types of packages; one which will include basic channels plus some extended channels too, another will include all in the first plus premium movie channels, and the third will include the first two with an extra premium feature added such as DVR, HD, or sports packages.

The price will generally rise as the number of channels increases, and the number of televisions to receive the programming; for each television to receive satellite programming it must have its own receiver to decode the satellite signal, and deliver the satellite television programming to the set.

The Basics

Basic and Extended satellite TV programming packages will often include the familiar cable channels such as Discovery Channel, SPIKE, Animal Planet, and others including the local broadcasting networks.

Dish Network allows its customers to purchase even further specialized packages to lower costs and specify needs for their customers such as packages for families or the customer may choose to select the most popular channels in groups of 60 up to and including all the channels.

DirecTV's offering of basic satellite television programming includes all the most sought channels in the country plus premium music channels for digital music listening from a home entertainment center.

Movie Channels

Satellite TV programming packages which include movie channels will often offer specials which include HBO, Stars, Cinemax, Showtime, and Encore. Encore is often a free set of premium movie channels given with their extended package, the other premium channels can be offered as both packages and ala carte.

Extras

Satellite television programming never is short of extras to offer their customers; with features like digital video recording (DVR), high definition programming (HD), and the various satellite only sporting events available, a television aficionado is sure to find several channels to their liking.

Satellite television is often a great value and of great quality, the customer service and technical support offer by both major company is usually competitive with others within their industry. Customers are important to satellite television programming providers above most other businesses because they truly would not be in business without their customers.
