Vacation Destinations in Scotland

Scotland is one of the most beautiful, and most influencial, countries in the world. I might be a little biased as I live in the country but there is more than a hint of truth in the statement. While most folk know of the tartan clad, bagpiping Scotland many also appreciate the spectacular countryside, rich history and varied culture of this proud and industrious nation.
Picture postcard Scotland is not too hard to find and plenty of photo opportunities can be found it Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh, but dig a little deeper and you will discover fascinating places to visit such as the South Bridge Vaults.
Most of the population of Scotland is found in the central belt cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow and although there are other population centres (such as Dundee, Inverness, Perth and Stirling) the majority of the land is open, and sparcely populated, glorious countryside.
In all the country consists of a little over thirty thousand square miles but, due to the numerous inlets, coves and bays, the country has a coastline of around two thousand three hundred miles. Wherever you go in Scotland you are never too far from water with there being in excess of thirty one thousand lochs. In total there are seven hundred and ninety islands, one hundred and thirty of which are populated.
