The Speed Reader: You Go With Your Bad Self
By Alexandra MacLeod

It can be a lonely journey out in the world for you speed readers. Some praise you for your talents, while critics call it all a scam. But you know they are just jealous of your flashy hand and rapid eye movements. Loved and loathed at the same time, you are like the superheroes in “The Incredibles” without the spandex outfits and little masks. Or that giant robot-orb thing. Okay, maybe not those superheroes; they are animated, so they really can do anything. And it is quite possible super fast reading would be able to save the planet from a giant robot-orb thing, unless you had to read the manual to shut it down. Then you would be the hero. Get yourself a cape.

Speed readers do have those who say that are fakes trying to make a quick buck. There are many computer programs, and some simpler textbook curriculums offer the kind of “wow” results almost every diet pill ever hawked on late-night infomercials does; to, through exercises and tests, dramatically increase the speed of a reader. Sound too good to be true? For some, yes. But there are good programs, like Ultimate Speed Reader and Speed Reader-X that do produce very positive results. They may not be instantaneous, but you cannot always expect microwave results when working out your mind. Your success will depend on how serious you are.

To The Bat Cave Robin!

What is the point to becoming a speed reader? It does not seem like any red carpets are rolled out, no spotlights or endorsement deals in sight, and you still have to wait an hour like everyone else at The Outback. This is one of those things you mainly do for yourself. Of course, increasing your reading speed will also heighten other senses and make you more alert. You will have better peripheral vision and stronger memory skills. This could positively affect your job performance and habits.

Anyone can benefit from being more alert and having sharper vision, especially for driving and/or operating any heavy machinery. If you are looking for a speed reading tutorial program, find a web site that offer comparison shopping and reviews of each product. The reputable programs will offer easy installation, some form of customer support, different levels to increase your learning, an accompanying instruction manual, and additional teaching aids. You can also ask friends and family, especially anyone in the education field if they can offer any recommendations. You will be an official speed reader in no time.
