Another innovative speed reading training technique is to read in units or a number of words taken together. When one reads text one will be used to seeing words separated by spaces and when one reads one is acting as if one were speaking but in speaking one hears sounds while in reading one sees words. Reading is quite like speaking because when a person is a proficient reader he or she will tend to read sentences as if they were groups of words rather than a single word at a time.

Speed reading requires training both the eye as well as the brain to be able to process words written on paper that are stored in the subconscious of the reader. Speed reading training requires being steady and keeping smooth eye movement as well as be able to scan the text and get an overview of how the text is arranged and notice bold headers as well as captions.
