Ways to Teach Yourself Speed Reading

There are many ways that you can teach yourself speed reading. Speed reading is the idea that you are able to read much faster than you are able to now, and this is good for several reasons. First of all, speed reading can help you to get work done faster while you are at work, or help you to get school assignments done faster if you are a student. Also, if you are able to teach yourself speed reading, you are going to be able to spend less time reading for pleasure, and therefore reading for pleasure is going to feel better for you and be more enjoyable for you.

First Things First

First of all, if you want to teach yourself speed reading, you have to know that there are two parts to being able to read quickly. The first part is the actual amount of time that you spend reading a passage. The amount of time being as little as possible is what you are shooting for when you are engaging in speed reading. This is an important element of speed reading, because you want to be able to read quickly.

The second element of speed reading is being able to understand the information that you are reading. If you are going to teach yourself speed reading, you have to know that this is a big part of speed reading because it doesn't do you any good to learn how to read fast if you can't understand what you are reading.

Teaching yourself

Now that you know the two parts, here are some tips on how to teach yourself speed reading. First of all, when it comes to the speed that you are actually reading at, you can do this faster by learning to see words as groups of letters that mean something. Most people read by looking at each individual letter and sounding it out, even if they can do this quickly. If you are going to teach yourself speed reading, you need to know that basis of speed reading lies in your ability to recognize groups as words, without sounding them out. Once you can look at a word and know what it means you can move on to doing this with sentences. Smaller sentences, you should be able to simply look at the sentence and determine the meaning. This is the basis of speed reading, and it a good way to begin to teach yourself speed reading.
