Yes, There are Rental Stairlifts!
By A. M. Kelly
When someone becomes unable to navigate the stairs at home, he or she will probably consider having a stairlift installed. The alternatives include becoming a permanent fixture on the first floor, moving to a one-story home or taking a chance on struggling with the stairs. The stairlifts are fitted specifically to the home and made to fit the needs of the person who needs it. Because of the customization involved, most potential customers assume that the devices can only be purchased. A permanent purchase does not fit into every life, however. The good news is that there are rental stairlifts.
Buy, Buy For Now
Permanence is not as much a part of everyone's lifestyle as it once was. Many people rent or lease homes instead of owning them. Buying a customized aid for a permanent physical need in a temporary home is not always the best solution. While most people who need stairlifts do have permanent physical needs, some with temporary limitations can benefit from a stairlift.
Many of the first purchasers of lifts were victims of polio during the 1930's. Today's aging population is another large market for the devices. However, those recovering from serious injuries or temporarily debilitating conditions can benefit from rental stairlifts. Even if they only need help for a year or so, they can acquire a fully customized device to help them recover in their own homes.
Because a curved staircase is difficult to fit, some companies may not be able to accommodate them for rental stairlifts, but a typical straight staircase can be fitted. Some companies are willing to provide rental stairlifts for a minimum of only six months. Even those with long term needs may find that rental stairlifts are a good deal. Since the company owns the lift, it may offer an arrangement that includes maintenance, repairs, depreciation and more in the monthly cost.
There will likely be installation and removal fees, of course. In between, though, there is the use of a customized lift. So the Mom who is staying with her daughter for a year while recovering from an illness, the skier who suffered a bad break and the permanently disabled student who is temporarily renting a second-floor apartment while pursuing a graduate degree can all afford to have customized rental stairlifts. Today, opportunities are expanding even for those who may think their abilities are shrinking.
