The Desire to Stop Smoking
By M. A. Fulmar

There are a lot of smokers in America. Many would love to quit but they consider quitting to be something very difficult and so they continue to smoke. The desire to stop smoking is a start but there is a lot that is to conquer in order to be free of tobacco. Nicotine is one of the hardest drugs to quit and get rid of in the body. In order to be successful, the person should plan ahead and know about everything that they will probably have to go through.

Knowing all of the obstacles ahead is a great start. Understanding each of the obstacles that a person will face to stop smoking is even better. As the body begins to get less nicotine it will begin to try to get a persons attention. Understanding the coming feelings will make them easier for a person to deal with when they come. Have a good plan and use stop smoking aids to help curb the feelings.

Something else that helps to stop smoking is joining either a support group or a smoking cessation class. This will give the person support while they are learning to stop smoking. Just being around others trying to quit makes it easier for themselves to stop smoking.

Stop Smoking Failures

Most people who try to quit smoking fail for several reasons. One of the reasons for failing is that the person isn’t properly prepared to tackle the chore ahead of them. In order to stop smoking, a person must know the facts. Another reason people fail to quit is the desire to quit wanes when the desire for nicotine is strong. Without support, quitting smoking is like any other drug. It’s just too hard to do alone. Of course there are people who have made it without any type of help, but most people find it difficult to stop smoking even with help.

If the people that a smoker lives with aren’t prepared, it makes it almost impossible for the smoker to quit. Once the smoker begins to get cranky, the other people don’t want to even be around them. It is important that the persons spouse be there to encourage and listen to all of the talk and still tell them that they are doing a great job. One other reason for failure is the person doesn’t make any lifestyle changes. If the person meets friends after work at the local bar, it is going to be hard because everybody else isn’t trying to stop smoking. A person must take themselves away from the certain trigger points that make a person want to smoke.
