Stretch Mark Removal: Laser Surgery or Home Remedies?
By M. A. Fulmar
Stretch marks happen because of rapid expansion of skin during pregnancy as well as weight gain. However unsightly they may be, they are not a risk to one's health nor does it affect the ability of the body to function normally, and are only a cosmetic issue that needs to be treated accordingly. A new method for stretch mark removal is cosmetic lasers that are not like the traditional stretch mark creams and gels, and they are used to stimulate new collagen growth as well as to fill up stretch marks from the bottom up.
Absorbing Laser Energy into the Dermal Layer of the Skin
Using laser stretch mark removal the laser energy is absorbed into the skin's dermal layer, and thus enables more new collagen to be produced, which, when it thickens and plumps the skin, fills in the stretch marks from below. It is advisable, however, to consult a physician before using laser treatment for stretch mark removal.
There is no evidence to support the claims that lasers are effectual in removing stretch marks, and many plastic surgeons even suggest that it is ineffective in treating the problem. This may be because lasers only remove, vaporize as well as break down tissues and are not able to repair tissues. Stretch marks means torn tissue and so improvement may not be possible from laser treatment. Even clinical studies do not show improvement in stretch marks following laser treatment.
There is also another consideration to be taken into account and that is that insurance coverage will probably not cover stretch mark removal due to the fact that it is a cosmetic procedure. This makes using laser surgery for stretch mark removal a bit expensive and not everyone can afford the costs.
For those who do not want to bear the expenses associated with stretch mark removal in the form of laser surgery, there are a number of home remedies that can prove to be just as effective. One can drink loads of water because it would improve the skin's elasticity and thus prevent stretch marks from appearing. Eating a well balanced nutrient rich diet is also another helpful stretch mark removal approach since it will prevent a person from putting on extra weight which is a major cause of stretch marks appearing.
One may also massage the stretch marks and use olive oil, flaxseed oil, vitamin E oil or cod liver oil in order to remove stretch marks. In addition, exercising regularly to prevent stretch marks and taking cocoa butter to apply it on the skin can also be effective in removing stretch marks.
