Swimming in the Pool Is Great Activity
By Linda Rogers

Swimming in the pool is great exercise for the whole family. Swimming is aerobic exercise that provides great benefits to the heart. Swimming in the pool is a way to get this wonderful exercise without damaging the hips, knees and other body parts that might come with jogging or skipping rope. The knowledgeable cardiologists usually recommend at least thirty minutes of exercise to keep the cardiovascular system in good condition. This exercise can be accomplished in many ways including the skipping rope and jogging, but the doctors also recommend that the exercise should not damage any other part of the body for the sake of the heart.

Swimming in the pool can serve this purpose. Joggers should make sure that they have great shoes before they go out and pound the pavement. The shoes absorb some of the impact from the contact with the ground. While swimming in the pool, the water does not have the resistance that a concrete street or running track has against the joints of the body. Swimming in the pool is a cool way to get some exercise as well, for no one gets sweaty in a swimming pool like they do jogging in the street.

Swimming in the Pool Is a Social Activity

Swimming in the pool is a great way to socialize with friends while getting great exercise at the same time. Some community pools have group exercises with members of the community. If you are swimming with someone else, it is a lot less tedious than swimming laps on your own. A swimming pool usually has a deck around it with chairs and tables. Some swimming pools have a snack bar or a place to have a few drinks. This makes swimming a more enjoyable activity if you can share the experience with others. Some of the community pools also have competitions which provide a goal that makes swimming in the pool more enjoyable.

Swimming in the pool is a way of challenging yourself to go faster and longer. Someone who has not done a strenuous activity for a while can start out slowly. Some people might give up if they cannot swim long distances at first, but swimming in the pool gives a chance for constant improvement. Someone who could only do a lap at first might add another lap by the end of the week. The important thing is that each person gets started and continues to improve.
