Safety Guidelines for Swimming Pool and Spa
By Linda Rogers
Swimming pool and spa in your home can be a relaxing and convenient relief from hot weather conditions. It can easily provide you with a certain degree of relaxation and enjoyment, without leaving your home. However, hundreds of deaths related to submersions and drowning of both adults and children occur yearly. For this reason, you have to consider and follow the safety guidelines for swimming pool and spa to prevent possible accidents, drowning and other tragedies related to water accidents. Whether you have an aboveground pool or an in-ground swimming pool and spa, safety guidelines should still be followed. Your local municipality provides some of these guidelines. Meaning, you need to follow these regulations in order to install and use your pool or spa any time.
Ensuring Swimming Pool and Spa Safety
One of the most important regulations you need to follow when you have a swimming pool and spa at home is to install a barrier. A solid barrier prevents a helpless child from getting under, over and through the pool, while keeping them out of the pool area without supervision. This should be installed for both aboveground and inground pools. If you have children, you need to install gates for the pool. This is important to prevent them from roaming around the pool area without your supervision. You should also include a locking device or an alarm system to alert you when your child successfully goes through the barrier.
Indoor swimming pools and spas require more safety precautions because they are more accessible to children than those found in the back yard are. Be aware that the walls of your house will serve as barriers when your swimming pool or spa is located inside the house. Since homes with swimming pools and spas are always the ideal party place, alcohol consumption is not a good idea. Although you can host a part in your back yard, it is not ideal to allow guests to drink beer or other alcoholic beverages while swimming. This can increase the possibilities of drowning.
A swimming pool and spa requires proper maintenance, cleaning and checking of equipments. This is an important part of pool usage because it ensures your equipments will work properly. If you have no idea how to maintain pool pumps, filtration system, ventilation and heating equipments, the best choice is to hire a pool service to ensure you equipments and pool will have a longer lasting life.
