Professional teeth whitening system: A Few Different Options Are Available
By John Fraser
The use of peroxide bleaching compounds in the whitening of teeth is increasing in popularity with professional teeth whitening systems using them more and more. Teeth whitening techniques may vary though, usually they may fall in either of two categories β professional teeth whitening systems or at-home teeth whitening. As is obvious to infer, the professional system requires paying a visit to the dentist while, the at-home is performed, using bleaching treatments by a person on his or her own. The patient needs to first get his or her teeth professionally cleaned. The dentist may also need to polish the patient's teeth with flour of pumice so that surface staining is removed. The advantage of using a professional teeth whitening system is that dentists are sure to have a large variety of whitening products to use and, in addition, will follow a series of standardized steps while performing professional teeth whitening.
Steps To Take For Using a Professional teeth whitening system
A dentist will be able to evaluate the best treatment on a case by case basis for each individual patient. The patient as well as the dentist will want determining the effectiveness of particular treatments and, this may require the dentist evaluating the pre-treatment shade of the teeth of the patient. This will entail comparing the patient's teeth with different colored tabs to determine the best suited tab that matches the color of the patient's teeth.
Teeth that need to be whitened may have to be isolated so that the professional teeth whitening peroxide bleaching agents do not touch the soft tissues, which can easily be irritated by the caustic nature of these agents. This is done with the help of placing a βdental damβ, which may take the form of a thin latex sheet into which holes are punched and, this is further slipped over the teeth into position.
Professional teeth whitening involves drying off the teeth of the patient and, further applying a bleaching agent. The professional teeth whiteners can either be thick pastes or gels, which the dentist dabs onto each tooth's surface. Or, the professional teeth whitening may involve exposing the teeth whitener to a laser or an activated light. Treating a patient with professional teeth whitening systems may not take more than 90 minutes and, if the patient suffers teeth sensitivity, the dentist may find it expedient to cut short the treatment and, end the bleaching process.
Post treatment is similar to pre-treatment and, the dentist will evaluate the teeth's shade so that it conforms to expected results. To get the best and most accurate evaluation of the teeth's shade, this evaluation should take place a few days after the professional teeth whitening has been completed.
It is also possible to get professional teeth whitening in the form of fluoride treatment which can significantly reduce thermal sensitivity that a patient may experience. These professional teeth whitening systems can be very beneficial to those whose teeth are in need of extensive whitening.
