Toddler Bedding: Enhancing the Focal Point of the Bedroom
By Mary Simmons
When the time comes for your little one to transition from his crib to a toddler bed, this is the perfect opportunity for parents to redecorate the nursery to your toddler's discerning tastes. Forget the bunnies, bears and lambs that have adorned the walls and crib of the baby room. It is time to move on to brighter colors, bolder patterns and designs that will stimulate your child's imagination and creativity. A good place to begin this room re-do is by selecting the perfect toddler bedding for your child's new big-kid bed.
There are many options when it comes to shopping for toddler bedding. Since the bed that you will be moving your child into often comes equipped with a crib-size mattress, you may be able to get away with using your fitted sheets a while longer. However, a bed requires a set of bedding that will include a flat sheet, comforter and pillow case in addition to the fitted sheet that you probably used in the crib. You can usually find these pieces in coordinating sets to cut down on shopping time, and often cost as well.
Toddler bedding is generally made of high-quality, 100% cotton materials that are machine washable and dryer-safe. The quality of the fabric also means that durability will not be an issue. This is good news to moms, and allows you to select a toddler bedding set knowing that it should survive throughout this stage of your child's life – and hopefully a sibling's toddler years as well!
Using Toddler Bedding to Coordinate a Room
Once you find a theme that you and your child like, you can often find accessories to coordinate with your toddler bedding of choice. A wallpaper border, lamp, drawer pulls or a rug will pull the theme together and enhance the look of your toddler bedding. Curtains are another way to expand the theme in your child's bedroom. If you select a rather busy pattern in a bedspread, you might opt for using solid colors that coordinate with the spread, rather than filling the room with too many shapes and colors.
With careful planning and design, a toddler's room can stimulate her imagination and provide a fun retreat where she can play and rest. Toddler bedding is often the first step in choosing a theme and colors for your child's room, and will provide a focal point to work from. Use your child's tastes and preferences to design a room that your child will enjoy throughout this special phase of her life.
