Valentine Poems Are Expressions of Love
By Sally Brompton
Valentine's Day is a special holiday all around the world because it is a day of love. On this day hundreds of years ago, a priest named Valentine was executed by the ruler of his country because he tried to help soldiers in love marry their sweethearts. According to this legend, the ruler did not want the soldiers to marry because he thought this would be a distraction from their duties. Valentine married soldiers any way, and the ruler became very angry. First he threw Valentine in jail and tried to convince him to leave his religion. When he would not change for the ruler, he was executed. Many people sent Valentine messages to thank him for helping those young people in love.
The messages to this priest became known as Valentines, and this day is still celebrated using the name of this wonderful priest. The card companies make millions of dollars now with their Valentine card collections that people buy to send to those that they love. The cards usually contain Valentine poems. Valentine poems are usually poems about love. These poems are not just for sweethearts or spouses, but sometimes these poems are for parents, siblings and good friends. The Valentine poems express the affection of one person to another.
Some Valentine Poems Are Unique
The card companies have professional writers compose the Valentine poems in their card collections. These writers have special Valentine poems for many different types of people. Some of these poems have rhythm and rhyme, and sometimes the writers do not include words that rhyme in their Valentine poems. The Valentine poems usually have very vivid words with strong images that tell the person that they are wonderful and beautiful. The words in a Valentine poem usually say something about a love that will last forever.
Sometimes Valentine poems are written by people themselves because they want the Valentine poems to be unique. The poems often have the same sentiments as those written by the professional writers. Some of the unique poems are even more poetic than the ones written by the professionals. The original poems often say something very specific about the person who receives the card. These words usually mean a great deal to the person who receives the card. The Valentine cards are special messages so most people are happy to receive them if they are from the professionals or from an amateur. Everybody loves to get a message of love.
