Do Corny Valentine Sayings Help Or Hurt You On Valentine's Day?
By Sally Brompton

Ah! Love is in the air! Valentine's day is right around the corner and the stores are filled with cheesy Valentine sayings plastered on t-shirts, cupcakes and cards galore. Will buying these well-worn, eye-rolling slogans help your chances of finding true love on Valentine's Day?

The Cheesy T-Shirt

“I seem to have lost my lips, can I borrow yours?”. “My heart belongs to you”. “You make my heart beat”. “Loved by Tim”. “I'm free for Valentine's Day, what time should I pick you up?”

Need I go on? We've all seen them, the sappy love slogan plastered t-shirt designed to pick up the opposite sex. What it boils down to is this: if you need a catchy phrase on a t-shirt to get the attention of that hottie across the room, chances are you won't be able to keep their attention. Don't waste your money unless you really like the shirt.

What about those corny cards that seem to multiply like bunnies in February? This depends greatly on the intended recipient. If they have a great sense of humor or you are lucky enough to stumble upon a card with references to an inside joke, then by all means, give it a try. Or you can save your money and write your own card, complete with sappy Valentine sayings and crayon signature. If you're going the humorous approach, go for broke, it pays off better in the end

Tried And True, The Chocolate Love Affair

When at a loss for that perfect Valentine's gift, forgo the cheesy Valentine's sayings and go with a classic: chocolate. Unless your love has an unnatural aversion or an allergy to chocolate, you can't go wrong here. Splurge for the big, tacky heart shaped box, it's what they would buy for themselves.

If you're going to invest in a Valentine's saying, you best bet is a hopelessly romantic drivel about you cease to breathe and think when you love is gone from your sight. You get the idea.

It takes a certain personality and a lot of spunk to pull off those cheesy Valentine's sayings. If you're wondering if you're that type of person, you're not. You spunky people know you can get away with it, without a doubt. It's not really something that learned, it's more like a gift from God in the form of the ability to exude confidence and charisma while wearing a ridiculous hat or bright orange tennis shoes. For those without the gift, stick to the romance section, it will be more believable coming from you.
