Do You Need a Fluoride Water Filter?
By Tony Cunningham
Fluoride is often added to a city's water supply. The reason is to make sure that the children who drink the city's water will have access to a reliable source of fluoride for their teeth. For some people, however, the jury is still out on whether fluoride is safe or necessary either for dental health or for drinking water. If, for whatever reason, you want to opt out of receiving fluoride in your drinking water, you can add a fluoride water filter to your home.
The Right Filter
There are many water filter systems on the market today. They are designed to remove contaminants that make water smell bad, like sulfur, or taste bad, like chlorine. Some filters will remove the pollutants that make water hard and others are able to remove bacteria and organisms. While most filters remove a variety of contaminants, only a dedicated fluoride water filter will remove fluoride.
Of course, a fluoride water filter will also filter out other types of unwanted additives. There are choices among water filters. You can find a whole home fluoride water filter that will remove pollutants at the point where the water enters the home. This will ensure that rust will stay out of your laundry, chlorine will stay out of your shower and fluorine will stay out of your drinking water.
If you are only concerned about your drinking water, you can install a fluoride water filter that allows you to switch between filtered and non-filtered water. This will help make sure that your filter's life will be extended by not having to work on water being used for cleaning or ironing.
There are three main ways that a fluoride water filter might work. Reverse osmosis filtration is generally used to cleanse some brands of bottled water. If you want to avoid fluoridated water, remember that not all kinds of bottled water is free of it. Reverse osmosis is too expensive for home use. Activated alumina defluoridation filter is one type of home fluoride water filter system.
This kind is often used in areas where fluorosis prevails. This is an illness due to too much naturally-occurring fluoride. The most widely-used home fluoride water filter is the distillation filtration system. It is more affordable than activated alumina. If you need to avoid fluoride, remember that both red and black tea naturally contain it. Do your research on the subject and choose the best fluoride water filter for your needs.
