Small Miox Water Purifier Gets Big Results
By Tony Cunningham
Developed with the military in mind, the miox water purifier is now used by thousands when camping, hiking or traveling where a supply of fresh water may be questionable. This portable device uses salt and electricity to produce a small amount of mixed oxidant solution, hence the name, to make about 100 ounces of water bacteria free in about 30 minutes.
The miox water purifier uses untreated fresh water and salt to create brine. An electric charge is then pushed through it to create a powerful mixture of oxidants, which when mixed with about 100 ounces of water renders all bacteria and virus in the water harmless in about 15 minutes, Giardia in about 30 minutes. If you think the water may contain Cryptosporidium, it takes about four hours in the mixture to kill.
There is nothing special or unique to buy for the miox water purifier since it uses common rock salt and two CR123 Lithium camera batteries. The size of the unit makes at easy to carry, only about seven inches long and not bigger around than a fat marker. Simply fill the salt section, add a teaspoon of water, close it and press the start button. Pour the charged water from the miox water purifier into a container holding about 100 ounces of water and wait. The miox water purifier kit comes with testing strips to tell you when the water is safe to drink.
Making Supercharged Water Purifier
Once you add the water to the salt and close the unit, by clicking the start button on the miox water purifier four times, it is claimed the purification process, once the solution is added to the untreated water, can be completed in less than one minute. Using the test strips can verify your water is safe to drink.
One teaspoon of salt in the miox water purifier can purify 12 gallons of water. One set of batteries is good for about 50 gallons of water and since the salt has an unending shelf life, the unit can be stored of long periods of time between uses without worrying about the salt going bad. The batteries however do have a shelf life and you will probably want fresh ones to take with you on you next camping, hiking and biking trip.
The only difference between the model of miox water purifier used by the military and the one for civilian use is the color of the unit.
